Today’s Rundown:

  • NEW YORK FIRES OVER 2,000 PRISON GUARDS FOR NOT RETURNING AFTER WEEKS-LONG STRIKE: The strike, initiated over grievances concerning working conditions, significantly disrupted the state’s correctional system. Despite reaching an agreement with the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association, which required at least 85% of staff to return by a specified deadline, the actual number of returning officers fell short.
  • SEN. MARCO RUBIO SAYS 83% OF USAID PROGRAMS CUT FOLLOWING SIX-WEEK GOVERNMENT PURGE: This decision led to the cancellation of approximately 5,200 out of 6,200 contracts, deemed misaligned with U.S. national interests. The remaining 17% of programs will be integrated into the State Department for more efficient management.
  • DOJ LAUNCHES INVESTIGATION INTO MAJOR EGG PRODUCERS AS PRICES SKYROCKET: Over the past year, the average cost of a dozen eggs has risen by approximately 50%, reaching $4.95—a 240% increase compared to five years ago. This escalation has raised concerns about potential antitrust violations, prompting the DOJ to examine whether producers have colluded to inflate prices or restrict supply.
  • SAUDI ARABIA’S $500B NEOM PROJECT FACES FINANCIAL DISASTER, REPORTS SAY: Originally budgeted at $500 billion, estimates for Neom have now soared to over $1 trillion. The project’s centerpiece, The Line—a proposed 170-kilometer linear city—has seen its completion timeline extended to 50 years, with only 1% expected to be finished by 2030.
  • WENDY WILLIAMS REMOVED FROM ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY BY NYPD, TAKEN TO HOSPITAL: Williams, 60, has been under a court-appointed guardianship since May 2022 due to concerns about her health and finances. In February 2024, she was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia. However, Williams has publicly disputed these diagnoses, asserting she is not cognitively impaired and describing her living situation as akin to being in “prison.”
  • CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD SET TO BECOME ONE OF MCU’S LOWEST-GROSSING FILMS: As of March 9, 2025, the film has grossed approximately $370.8 million worldwide, with $176.6 million from the United States and Canada, and $194.2 million from other territories. Given its production budget of $180 million, industry analysts estimate that the film needs to earn $425 million globally to break even.
  • QB JOSH ALLEN SIGNS RECORD-BREAKING CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH BUFFALO BILLS: Allen has signed a six-year contract extension valued at $330 million, with $250 million guaranteed, making it the largest contract in NFL history. This extension secures Allen’s position with the team through the 2030 season.
  • VIRGINIA HIGH SCHOOL TRACK STAR ATTACKED WITH BATON BY OPPONENT DURING STATE TITLE RACE: During the Virginia High School League Class 3 State Indoor Championships on March 7, 2025, an incident occurred involving two high school athletes during the 4×200 meter relay race. As Brookville High School junior Kaelen Tucker attempted to overtake I.C. Norcom High School’s Alaila Everett, Everett’s baton struck Tucker in the head, resulting in Tucker sustaining a concussion and a possible skull fracture.
