Today’s Rundown:

  • NEW POLL SHOWS MORE AMERICANS BLAME GOP AND TRUMP FOR THE SHUTDOWN: A new national survey finds more voters hold Republicans in Congress and President Trump responsible for the ongoing shutdown than Democrats. Independents tilt the same way, though many still blame both parties. Concern about missed paychecks and stalled services has risen as the closure drags on. The numbers are shaping each side’s messaging as negotiations remain stuck.
  • PAKISTAN AND AFGHANISTAN AGREE TO KEEP A FRAGILE CEASEFIRE: After talks in Istanbul mediated by Turkey (and with Qatar involved), Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to maintain a truce while they work on a monitoring plan. The move follows deadly border clashes and closures that choked trade and refugee flows. Pakistan continues to press Kabul over the Pakistani Taliban’s presence; Afghanistan denies harboring militants. Another meeting is planned to lock down verification steps.
  • HERITAGE FOUNDATION CHIEF DEFENDS TUCKER CARLSON AFTER FUENTES INTERVIEW: Heritage president Kevin Roberts publicly backed Carlson after the host interviewed Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes, a figure widely condemned for antisemitic, white-nationalist views. Roberts said debate shouldn’t be policed and framed critics as part of a “globalist” pressure campaign. Jewish and civil-rights groups blasted the appearance as normalization of extremism. The dust-up highlights a growing split on the right over media platforms and boundaries.
  • KING CHARLES STRIPS PRINCE ANDREW OF TITLE, ORDERS ROYAL LODGE EVICTION: Buckingham Palace confirmed that Andrew will no longer use the “Prince” title and must leave Windsor’s Royal Lodge, deepening consequences tied to the Epstein scandal. Palace statements cast the move as necessary to protect the monarchy’s work and reputation. Andrew denies wrongdoing and has been out of public duties for years. Royal reporters called the step extraordinary in modern times.
  • HISTORIC NYC FLOODING KILLS TWO AS SUBWAYS AND ROADS SWAMPED
  • Record rainfall flooded streets and basements across New York City, leaving two people dead and disrupting subway and air travel. Images showed cars submerged and stations waterlogged as drainage systems were overwhelmed. Crews worked to restore service and clear debris into the night. Officials urged residents to avoid flooded areas and report basement hazards.
  • DISNEY PULLS ABC/ESPN AND MORE FROM YOUTUBE TV AFTER TALKS COLLAPSE: Disney networks—including ESPN, ABC, FX, and National Geographic—went dark on YouTube TV after the companies failed to reach a new carriage deal. Pricing is the core dispute; YouTube TV said Disney’s terms would hike costs, while Disney accused Google of using market power. YouTube TV offered bill credits during the blackout. Sports fans are among the most impacted.
  • MSNBC HOSTS CRITICIZE COMCAST OVER DONATION TO TRUMP BALLROOM PROJECT: Several MSNBC anchors, including Rachel Maddow, publicly called out parent company Comcast for contributing to the White House ballroom project championed by Trump. They warned the donation risks the company’s reputation and conflicts with newsroom values. Coverage notes MSNBC is slated to be spun off to a new company next month. Comcast did not provide a detailed response.
  • COIN SHORTAGE GROWS AFTER U.S. MINT HALTS PENNY PRODUCTION: Retailers and banks report penny shortfalls after the administration ended penny production earlier this year. Some stores are rounding totals or offering incentives to bring coins back into circulation. The Mint has long said it costs more than one cent to make a penny. Supporters say halting production saves money; critics worry about rounding impacts on small purchases.
