WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN OHIO HOME WAS LIKELY KILLED BY HER GREAT DANES
Police in Clearcreek Township, south of Dayton, said that Mary Matthews, 49, may have been so intoxicated that she didn’t realize how badly she’d been bitten and didn’t call for help. Matthews was found Friday afternoon by her husband, Dale Matthews, who was released from the Warren County Jail that day, and his son. When officer Wendi Blaha responded to the report of a possible overdose at Matthews’ home, she found walls covered in blood and Matthews lying on the floor of her bathroom, a police report says. Matthews’ body was covered in puncture wounds and appeared to be missing a piece of flesh from her ankle, the report says. She wasn’t breathing and her body was rigid, according to the report. Blaha found two large, thin Great Danes on an enclosed deck that was so littered in feces that the “actual deck could not be seen.”

The officer, who requested anonymity because the investigation was underway, also said the case didn’t involve drunken driving or any other serious offenses.

Kushila Stein, 45, from New Zealand, was rescued from the Aegean Sea, north of Crete, on Sunday. GORDON SONDLAND DEPOSITION: KEY DIPLOMAT CHANGES TESTIMONY AND ADMITS QUID PRO QUO WITH UKRAINE
US Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland on Monday sent the committees a three-page addition to his testimony, saying he had remembered a September 1 conversation in which he told a top aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the security aid was linked to investigations into former Vice President Joe Biden and the 2016 election. Sondland’s new testimony, which was included in the public release of his closed-door deposition transcript on Tuesday, adds to Democrats’ evidence that the President connected the freezing of US security aid to Ukraine to investigations into Biden as well as the hacking of the Democratic National Committee’s servers during the 2016 election, which cuts to the heart of their impeachment case against Trump. The committees have now heard from several witnesses, including top US diplomat in Ukraine Bill Taylor and National Security Council aide Tim Morrison, who have testified that Ukraine opening such investigations was linked to $400 million in US security aid and a one-on-one meeting between Trump and Zelensky. In his deposition last month, Sondland testified that he did not ultimately know why the aid to Ukraine was withheld. But he told lawmakers that efforts by the President’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani to persuade Ukraine to open an investigation into Trump’s political rivals “kept getting more insidious” as time went on, and he suggested Giuliani’s efforts might have been illegal, according to the deposition transcript.

SAMSUNG SAYS TO SHUT DOWN U.S. CPU RESEARCH DIVISION
Exynos mobile processor chips are considered a hallmark of the South Korean firm’s attempts to reduce its reliance on memory chips and increase sales of logic chips that are used to power mobile devices and autonomous vehicles. But the proprietary chips, which are found in Samsung’s flagship Galaxy series smartphones and compete against Qualcomm Inc’s (QCOM.O) marquee mobile processors, have struggled to find external customers. The decision to shut down the division, which will make some 300 jobs redundant, point to challenges Samsung faces in promoting Exynos chips, analysts said. The move has led to speculation that Samsung will use core designs from ARM or semi-custom designs. Park added that Samsung is not likely to give up the Exynos business entirely. Samsung said it will continue to develop and produce Exynos chips regardless of the termination of CPU (central processing unit) core projects, and some of 300 affected employees could be relocated to different projects.

FACEBOOK CHANGES CORPORATE LOGO TO DISTINGUISH PRODUCTS FROM MAIN APP
Facebook’s logo is getting a refresh. On Monday, the social media giant said it’s changing its corporate logo from one that’s synonymous with its main Facebook app and website to one that can better mesh with the other products it owns and operates, including Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus. Antonio Lucio, Facebook’s chief marketing officer, said in a blog post that the new branding — which has the Facebook name spelled out in a different font than the one that’s adorned its namesake service for years — was “designed for clarity, and uses custom typography and capitalization to create visual distinction between the company and app.” The new logo is designed to pair with its various services, changing color to match the product it’s accompanying, such as green for WhatsApp or the purple and orange hue that’s associated with Instagram. The move is also a sign that Facebook is trying to make it more obvious to consumers that it owns other social networks and messaging services. In October, the Pew Research Center released a survey that showed only 29% of Americans know Facebook owns both WhatsApp and Instagram.
