15-YEAR-OLD COCO GAUFF OUSTS VENUS AT AUSSIE OPEN
Gauff, 15, played Williams, 39, to begin her first appearance in the main draw at Melbourne Park, just like what happened at Wimbledon last year. And, just like at the All England Club, the youngest woman in the field got the better of the oldest woman in the field, with Gauff beating Williams 7-6 (5), 6-3 on Monday. It was the most anticipated match of Day 1 at the first major tennis tournament of the decade, and it did not disappoint. The first set, in particular, was intriguing, with Gauff repeatedly pulling ahead, only to have Williams – who already had won four of her seven Grand Slam singles trophies by the time Gauff was born – rebuff her.

STUDIO GHIBLI FILMS ARE COMING TO NETFLIX OUTSIDE NORTH AMERICA NEXT MONTH
Until very recently, Studio Ghibli refused to offer digital versions of its content in any format. Last month the company started selling downloadable copies, however, and WarnerMedia announced that it had obtained US streaming rights for its upcoming spring launch of HBO Max. With Netflix’s acquisition, the movies will be available to watch across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the Americas. Netflix is subtitling the movies in 28 languages and providing new dubs for up to 20 languages, which is no small task. As with HBO Max, however, Netflix’s deal doesn’t cover Grave of the Fireflies, since Studio Ghibli doesn’t hold the publishing rights.

HUAWEI WILL USE TOMTOM FOR MAPS NOW THAT IT’S CUT OFF FROM GOOGLE
It’s not shocking that Huawei would forge a partnership like this. With the US blacklisting Huawei over alleged security concerns, the Chinese firm had to either find a global navigation partner or else accept that its map software would be limited at best. At the same time, it’s still big news. Even if Huawei will still miss out on the Google apps that are often important to success outside of China, it won’t have to worry so much about losing vital functionality.

MANHUNT IN SAN ANTONIO AFTER SHOOTING AT BAR KILLS 2, INJURES 5
Police said officers were called shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday to the Ventura, a music venue located along San Antonio’s Museum Reach portion of the River Walk. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said an argument broke out inside of the club between a group of individuals and one person pulled out a gun and started shooting. One victim died at the scene, and another six were transported to a hospital, where one was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The victims have not been identified. McManus said the victim who died at the club was male. McManus said he is confident that a suspect will be soon identified and apprehended. No further information was immediately available.

The couple tied the knot at the La Paris Estate in Cape Town, South Africa on Monday night, according to People magazine. The ceremony was about 30 minutes long, during which the former NFL quarterback and the Miss Universe 2017 winner read their own vows in front of over 250 guests.

SINGER-SONGWRITER DAVID OLNEY DIES ON STAGE DURING PERFORMANCE AT FLORIDA FESTIVAL
Some news reports said he “collapsed” on stage, but that isn’t quite true: Olney simply became still on his stool, leading some audience members and even the musicians beside him to think he was simply taking a pause, before they realized what had happened and lowered him to the stage. Olney was giving his second festival performance of the day as part of an “in the round” song-swap show with Amy Rigby, who was sitting next to him and described his last moments. Olney was a revered figure in the folk-rock and Americana communities who had recorded 20 albums of his own as well as having his songs covered by Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Del McCoury and his former roommate Steve Earle.

MOST COFFEE MAKERS ARE CRAWLING WITH GERMS AND GROWING MOLD
Whether it’s the single-serve Keurig, espresso Nespresso machine or a traditional coffee maker, it’s important to keep these appliances clean to prevent the growth of bacteria, yeast or even mold. Lisa Yakas, senior product manager of Consumer Products at NSF International, formerly known as the National Sanitation Foundation, says that these appliances are relatively harmless as long as clients follow the manufacturer’s cleaning directions. However, without routine cleaning, they can get pretty grimy.

737 MAX CRISIS: BOEING SEEKS TO BORROW $10 BILLION OR MORE
The company has secured at least $6 billion from banks so far, the people said, and is talking to other lenders for more contributions. The total amount could rise if there is additional demand from banks, one person familiar with the matter said. Liquidity isn’t an immediate concern, analysts have said, but the new debt shows Boeing is shoring up its finances amid the cash-sapping fallout of the two crashes — one in Indonesia in October 2018 and another in Ethiopia in March last year — that killed all 346 people aboard the two flights. The amount Boeing is seeking to borrow is more than what some analysts were expecting. For example, Jefferies earlier this month forecast Boeing would issue $5 billion in debt this quarter.
