1964: Comedian Lenny Bruce was convicted of obscenity.

1999: Members of the 900-year-old thatched Norman Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Mautby, England, announced the church would celebrate Christmas for the first time ever with electric lights. An anonymous benefactor had installed lights in the church that had always worshiped by candlelight because it could not afford electricity.

2010: The repeal of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, the 17-year-old policy banning homosexuals serving openly in the United States military, was signed into law by President Barack Obama.
